Epic has announced that they will be bringing their smash hit Battle Royale to mobile. This is one of several phases Epic looks to achieve with their multi-platform gaming experience, ala Hearthstone.
A very ambitious move as Battle Royale games are a 100 player multiplayer game with huge twitch mechanics, which leaves the mobile gamers at a huge disadvantage and let alone what this will do to your battery life.
It looks like they will be rolling out the iOS version first and the Android support to come after but just to rephrase what i just mentioned earlier, Epic has just announced that they will be supporting, phones and tablets for their hit game. So you’ll have PC, Console, Tablet and Mobile users all playing at the same time in the same content, same weekly update. Same same, but the experience will be definitely different.
Epic has come out and has said that
“We believe this is the future of games,” the developer wrote. “The same game on all platforms. Console quality graphics and action. Play when you want, where you want.”
I too agree on these sentiments but timing and the evolution of technology is also a very important factor when making product decisions. So when mentioning the future, is this 5 years, 10 years, 15 years, next year. All this usually hinges on player adoption to technology which usually can be dissected into several different variables. Battery Life, Performance, Payment Model, Player Experience and the list goes on. So Epic isn’t wrong about seeing the future, but how far away it is, is something to be discussed.
