King sees strong revenue growth for Q3 and celebrates 5 years of Candy Crush on mobile

The Candy Crush franchise has reportedly cleared over $2.73 billion downloads since they first released back in April of 2017.

King threw a 5 year anniversary celebration for the trademark title for their company, Candy Crush Saga.  During the celebration a couple of metrics have been reported around the game to showcase its success and they are as follows:

  • 2.73 Billion Downloads
  • 1.1 Trillion Rounds of Candy Crush Saga have been played
  • 350 Million Candies have been swiped
  • Remained in the top 10 grossing rank for the past 5 years

Plans around creating an in-game celebration which gifts players 2 uses of a party booster with new graphics and animation is planned.

Behind the Kings Numbers

Activision recently released its quarterly reports for Q3 Fiscal Year of 2017 (Month end September 30, 2017)  The company reported revenue of $1.62 billion for the quarter, up 3.2% year to year.

King which was acquired by Activision for $5.9 Billion dollars back in February of 2016 has reported revenue of over $528 Million.  Which means King alone has generated over 1/3 of Activisions revenue during Q3 FY2017

The initial assumption when during the Activision acquisition was that the executives were looking for an exit strategy as light core games have saturated the market making it more and more difficult for King to grow their revenue, but it seems King is still chugging along as they experienced their strongest quarter yet.  This is off the heals of declining month to month MAU (Monthly Active Users) at 293 Million users but they are making up this gap but tweaking their game design and successfully converting players into paying customers for 9 consecutive months.

King looks to release more titles in 2018 which include, Candy Crush Friends Saga, Farm Adventure, and a social casino game which are already in soft launch.
